Rutan & Russell designed this palatial waterworks, built in 1910,1 which stands in a little enclave of the city of Pittsburgh on the north shore of the Allegheny just outside Aspinwall. It is decorated with elaborate grotesque heads and other classical effusions.

- We had incorrectly attributed this building to Thomas Scott in an earlier version of this article. A city architectural survey attributes the nearby Aspinwall pumping station to Scott; but a Gazette Times article with photos (“Harmony in Filtration Plant Designing,” Gazette Times, December 11, 1910, third section, page 7) tells us that Rutan & Russell were the architects of the Ross Pumping Station. ↩︎
