We saw the Western Theological Seminary at the blue hour last month. Here are a few pictures taken just after sunset, when the light is brighter and just touched with gold.
The building was designed by Thomas Hannah in 1914.(1) It is now West Hall of the Community College of Allegheny County, which has an admirable record of preserving historic buildings.
Footnotes
- A city architectural survey had a date of 1912, but that appears to be wrong. Source: The Construction Record, May 23, 1914: “Architect Thomas Hannah, Keenan building, has been selected to prepare plans for a tapestry brick and terra cotta fireproof institutional building, costing about $200,000, for the Western Theological Seminary, Northside. The work consists of a chapel, library, class rooms, and administration offices.” (↩)
