One of the most imposing-looking banks in the whole Pittsburgh area, this expensive—we had almost said egregiously expensive—Doric pile seems not to be occupied at the moment, but it is in beautiful shape externally. It was still in use as a bank until about six years ago, so it is fully accessible and waiting for the next tenant who needs a building that will knock people’s socks off.

Addendum: The architects were Mowbray & Uffinger of New York, specialists in banks, who also designed the Peoples Building in McKeesport.1

- Record & Guide, September 4, 1907, p. 581. “The Bank of Wilkinsburg will erect a new building for banking purposes at Wood street and Ross avenue, on the site of the bank’s present building. The exterior will be of brick and stone, with a finely finished interior of polished granite. The banking room will have a beautiful ceiling, ornamented with plaster designs and mural work. The counters will be of imported marble. There will be separate writing and waiting rooms for depositors, and handsomely finished and equipped officers’ rooms. Steam heat, electric lights, elevators, etc., will be provided. Also sanitary plumbing, tiling and plate glass. The two upper floors wil be subdivided into business offices and will be reached by a fireproof stairway and elevator. The plans have been prepared by Architects Mowbray & Uffinger, of New York City. Mr. R. L. Finley is president and G. W. Baldwin, vice-president of the bank.” ↩︎
