Father Pitt

Why should the beautiful die?

Sidewalks of Allegheny West

It may be that old Pa Pitt will offend every resident of every other street in Pittsburgh by saying so, but he believes that Beech Avenue in Allegheny West is the most beautiful residential street in the city.

There was a street named Perry Lea Place very near the intersection of Ivory Avenue and Perrysville Avenue. In my opinion it was the most beautiful residential street I have ever seen. Gone because of I-279. I wish I could find photos of the street and homes. It was a wide street with extremely tall, beautiful trees that were perfectly spaced lining the sidewalk on both sides. Lovely homes (some might have called them “mansions”) and I thought they were more beautiful than the houses on “Judges’ Row” near Riverview Park. If anyone has photos please post them.
