Father Pitt’s Pittsburgh Encyclopedia is where old Pa Pitt keeps all the references he doesn’t want to lose track of. As the site grows, you’ll find biographies of local architects, links to historic maps and documents, and other things that make research easier.
The site is built in a very simpleminded way, and instead of weighing it down with a database and comment system, Father Pitt will use this page to corral any corrections or comments readers might have about the information in the Encyclopedia. I am awed at the research!
Dear Father Pitt,
I was perusing the entire collection of Lawrence Houston’s correspondence released via FOIA as I apparently am easily entertained and have nothing better to do than read the mail of someone who has long since passed, and I kept encountering letters from a Titus de Bobula demanding an ever shifting sum directly from the Chief Counsel of the CIA as a result of an entirely unrelated transaction. Working backwards from the time of his death I have become increasingly shocked and engrossed in the life of this man, and your writing on him has been incredible.
I would like to make a very amateur video for my small youtube channel about these letters to the CIA, and was wondering if I could have your blessing to use some of your photographs and utilize some of your same sources to produce a segment about his earlier life. I know your photographs are released under a CC0 license, but I couldn’t resist reaching out having enjoyed your writing that much.
Titus de Bobula is a fascinating individual, and I am shocked that someone can spend his time attempting to overthrow the Hungarian government in a fascist revolution and die in such poverty that he is begging the CIA for the equivalent of $5,000 in today’s money, and only have five paragraphs on Wikipedia.
