Yesterday’s light snow gave us this pretty scene in Mount Lebanon.

  1. Dear Father Pitt,

This past Friday, while wandering aimlessly around Downtown, I happened across these strange carvings at the corner of Strawberry and Coffey:

    https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Strawberry+Way,+Pittsburgh,+PA&hl=en&ll=40.442535,-79.998355&spn=0.000713,0.001206&sll=40.441307,-79.996498&sspn=0.002991,0.004823&oq=strawb&t=h&hnear=Strawberry+Way,+Pittsburgh,+Allegheny,+Pennsylvania&z=20&layer=c&cbll=40.442568,-79.998439&panoid=MV6_0KNhSBgHFMaUrdyS8A&cbp=12,240.06,,0,-5.41

One appeared to be George Washington. Another; Abraham Lincoln. A third; an African or Asian woman. And the fourth; an Indian Chief.

As this building faces an alley, which branches off of another alley, and the side on which the reliefs are carved was clearly never meant to be the primary public face of the structure, I am at a loss as to why these should be here. Can you shed any light on the matter?
