Silvery Checkerspot on Purple Coneflower

The flower (Echinacea purpurea) looks a bit bedraggled, but the butterfly (Chlosyne nycteis) is in fine shape.

  1. It seems butterflies use these coneflowers as their landing strips. Wondering why the butterflies like them so much, what is the attraction.
