The statue of St. Paul (by Joseph Sibbel) over the main entrance to St. Paul’s Cathedral in Oakland. He is reading from, presumably, one of his own letters, and he casually holds the sword that beheaded him.
Why should the beautiful die?

I have visited St. Paul’s on numerous occasions and have yet to notice the statue of St. Paul – not very observant – in my defense, most visits to the Cathedral begin with me running towards it’s front doors across four lanes of opposing 5th Ave rushing traffic, and, I seldom look up until I am well within the nave – its interesting the sword appears to be missing it’s hilt – has the hilt broken off or is the sword intentionally/traditionally depicted without the hilt? I will make special note next visit.
